LovageEssential Oil (Levisticum officinalis)
Therapeutic Grade
Natural Sources « All Essential Oils « A-Z Summary Listings |
From Ananda Aromatherapy, pure Lovage essential oil steam distilled from the leaves of Lovage grown in South Africa. The aroma is lovely: predominantly herbaceous and sweet, with spicy green tones. We also have a very fine CO2 distillation of the roots, coming to us from a fantastic distiller in Germany. The oil extracted from the roots is more pungent and viscous, with an earthy aroma reminicent of Angelica. Lovage has traditionally been a component of formulas for women's skin care, as well as recipes for digestion support.* What makes Ananda's oils different? | Suggested Uses: | Diffuse or apply Lovage essential oil topically, commonly diluted to desired concentration in a skin care formula. Root oil may be used for anointing, and the user should be aware the root essential oil has photosensitizing properties.
| Possible Actions: | Lovage is noted to be antiseptic, disinfecting, detoxifying, and diuretic. | |
| Cautions: | Always test a small amount of essential oil first for sensitivity or allergic reaction. If pregnant or under a doctor's care, consult a physician. Lovage essential oil is a known photosensitizer. This will make the skin more sensitive to UV light. If applying to skin that will be exposed to sunlight within the following 48 hours, keep the dilution to 1% or less. | |

| About Ananda Aromatherapy Essential Oils: |
All oils from Ananda Aromatherapy are therapeutic grade, meaning they are produced to the highest quality standards possible. Our essential oils are chosen for their integrity (all chemical constituents important for aromatherapy are intact), ecological 'soundness' (many are claimed organic, certified organic, or wild grown), and wonderful aromas. You may order a sample of any oil before trying larger amounts. Most samples are about .75ml; exotic oils such as Melissa, Rose, Angelica and Jasmine are only a few drops, but certainly enough to enjoy their aroma!

Lovage has been cultivated for hundreds of years in English gardens. It is from the Umbelliferae family, along with Angelica, Queen Anne's Lace (wild Carrot) and Celery. There seems to be almost conflicting information regarding the use of the essential oil from the roots or the leaves.
