From Ananda Aromatherapy, 100% pure wildcrafted Peru Balsam essential oil. This truly rich, earthy, balsamic and almost sweet oil has been steam distilled from the tree's resin under high vacuum. This means the boiling point of the water, and the temperature of the steam itself, is much lower than at standard atmospheric pressure. This helps retain the delicate aroma of this lovely oil.

Balsam of Peru, or Peru Balsam oil, is the more stimulating cousin of Copaiba balsam. The aroma is beautiful and rich, due to the the perfection of the distillation process for the oil. The resin of the tree has been steam distilled under high vacuum (meaning much lower pressure, and therefore temperature).

We were simply amazed with the beauty of this oil's aroma, which has a great diversity of aromatic effects as well. Peru Balsam is considered antiseptic and a cicatrizant, meaning it will prevent infections of cuts and scrapes while speeding creation of new skin cells.

It is also thought helpful for bronchial illnesses, and can be used in a diffuser to aid these conditions. It may help break up mucus in the lungs and sinuses, and assist in draining so one may breathe easier. Peru balsam oil is also used for skin care, especially for dry and chapped skin, and dry eczema.

Our biggest appreciation of the oil is its incredibly rich aroma. It can be worn alone as a natural perfume, and is an excellent substitute for Amber oil (which we may not be able to acquire again because of a discontinuation of the raw materials that were part of the oil). The aroma is very uplifting, and can aid in times of nervous tension to help on relax and decompress.

Uses:

Use in a diffuser for respiratory ailments, or apply topically for skin care or natural perfumery. Be sure to test a small area first to check your skin's sensitivity to the oil -- it may create sensitivity over time if used neat; for natural perfumery applications, Fractionated coconut oil is the carrier of choice.

Traditionally used as an antidepressant, antiseptic, cictrizant, sedative, expectorant, mucolytic, skin care agent for dry skin.

Recipes:

Peru balsam will blend well with nearly all earthy, resinous and woody aromas. Some suggestions are Frankincense, Palo Santo, Cedarwood, Copaiba balsam, Myrrh, Patchouli and Sandalwood.
